Welcome to Sixth Grade E.L.A. In E.L.A. we read many different novels and search for connections to our everyday lives. While investigating themes and ideas in literature and beyond, we also challenge ideas, ask questions, and learn to be a "thinker not a stinker". If there is a predicament to solve or a topic to explore, we want students to utilize resources in order to manage, produce, and demonstrate their learning successes. In addition, students learn how to write like an author, using narrative and expository techniques that allow them to communicate the exact ideas in just the right way. We explore fun with words, creative journal writing, imaginative story writing, and poetic development. Students also learn to explore, expand, and explain in the process. There are opportunities to explore and play with language, give public (and private) presentations to peers and family, and develop skills on an individual level. When it comes to personal growth, we want students to understand and regulate their actions and learning in order to be the most successful humans they can be. Our class themes, lessons, and opportunities allow for students to learn and grow in their development of reading, writing, language, and six grade socialization skills. Picture from Mrs. Schafer |
